The Mineral Technologies (MT) team celebrated this rare milestone with a COVIDSafe event in March. Special guests from the Sunshine Coast Lightning were on hand to help celebrate the anniversary, thanks to Downer’s partnership with the Super Netball team.
Mineral Technologies Executive General Manager, Andrew Foster, recognised and honoured the passion and commitment of employees over the past 80 years.
“The MT story is about human spirit, human innovation and perseverance,” Andrew said.
“From its beginnings, MT has always maintained a connectedness with customers in terms of what they really need and what adds value to their operation. That’s what has created a great 80-year story.”
General Manager, Metallurgy, Equipment and Technology, Alex de Andrade, paid tribute to current and past team members who have contributed to MT as it has grown into a global leader in fine mineral separation. Alex noted MT’s proud history of age, gender and cultural diversity as a key pillar of its success.
Diversity has also been a key factor behind the success of the Lightning, who are recognised as the most successful start-up sporting club in Australian history.
Lightning Head Coach Kylee Byrne and Australian netball legend, Vicki Wilson, spoke to the MT team about the importance of owning and embracing our differences at the 80-year event.
“We talk about being one club and everyone having a voice,” Kylee told our team.
“We also ensure that we celebrate uniqueness which can sometimes be difficult to achieve and is why we have an ongoing commitment to celebrating individuals for what they bring to the team.”
To commemorate its 80-year anniversary, MT has produced a history book showcasing key highlights from 1940 to 2020 and installed a history wall at the Carrara head office.
On Monday, 8 March, we celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD). The 2021 IWD theme is #ChooseToChallenge, which encourages people to choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequity, and choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. We spoke to a number of employees about this year’s theme, gender-based challenges they have faced,
