Jazzmin, a Mobile Flashbutt Welder Operator in our Infrastructure Projects team working on the Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) Renewals Project in WA, commenced working at Downer as a track worker in 2018. Her hard work and perseverance enabled a successful integration into the rail maintenance team where she’s earned the respect of fellow workmates by achieving successful outcomes.
She is currently working on the RTIO Renewals Project as the first qualified female Flashbutt Welder Operator across all contractors in the RTIO system. She has embraced the opportunity to learn and excelled in production and quality of workmanship – and has started training and upskilling her workmates in the use of the flashbutt welder.
Jazzmin is truly a trailblazer in the industry. The independent trainer who conducted the flashbutt welder assessment with Jazzmin noted that she is the first female Flashbutt Welder Operator he has come across in his 30 years in the rail industry.
